We are working with maurices in its search for an AVP of Online Marketing to be based in Duluth, MN. HARRY’S COMMENTS: If you are unfamiliar with Duluth (pop. 86,265), rest assured that Duluth ROCKS. The average age of a Duluth resident is just 33, and aficionados of the outdoor lifestyle are migrating there due to its proximity to national treasures like the Superior National Forest and Highway 61. The median home price is roughly $125,000 and the unemployment rate is only 5.9%. A hotbed for ecotourism, Duluth is a great place to START a family, and it’s an even better place to RAISE one …

Pretty, ain’t it? AND: When you find out what this job pays and compare it to what everyone else in Duluth makes, you’ll feel rich. (Don’t worry. I won’t tell a soul.)

Now then …

Maurices is currently seeking an AVP of Online Marketing. This is an opportunity to join an extraordinary team at the client’s home office. Maurices is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ascena Retail Group, a $4 billion specialty retailer of apparel for women and tween girls and boys, operating dressbarn, maurices, Justice, Lane Bryant, Cacique and Catherines. Ascena operates 3,800+ stores throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada.

Maurices stores are usually located in strip shopping centers in small to middle markets. During 2009, Maurices launched its ecommerce site and quickly blew away its online sales plan. The company is investing heavily in ecommerce, which could help the company reduce store inventory management costs while allowing the company to pursue a larger customer base online.

As the new AVP of Online Marketing, you will be responsible for the strategic and tactical levels of online marketing while jointly owning the vision for ecommerce. It is a chance for someone to come in on the marketing side of the team and make a name for themselves. Maurices ecommerce team is relatively small, but it has BIG corporate resources behind it.

According to Maurices VP of Ecommerce…

“Customer acquisition is very important for us, but equally important is increasing our wallet share among current customers. Our top competitors run excellent online businesses, and when our customers shop online, Maurices.com isn’t always top of mind. Yet when these same women visit a Maurices store, they love it and quite often it’s their favorite off-line place to shop. Our goal is to become their favorite place to shop online, as well.”

Key areas for the new AVP to audit include affiliate marketing, CSE, CRM, email marketing, loyalty and promo management, personalization, SEO, SEM, social media, and web analytics. I have a ton of proprietary intel from the client on their activities and objectives in these areas. Ask me about it when you apply.
