HARRY’S COMMENTS: I have been incredibly impressed with this client, in terms of both their recruiting capability and the underlying economics of their business. This is a fantastic career opportunity for a growth oriented, can-do, up-and-coming ecommerce executive who knows how to drive revenue in a lean environment packed with smart people.

We’ve all read the news stories about the importance of innovation to the health of our economy. The team at Camelot Ventures “gets it,” and they are constantly coming up with new ways to profitably finance, manage, and grow their business.  These guys are all about innovation, and this job will give one lucky candidate a chance to learn the VC business from the ground up.  Without a Harvard MBA, precious few people get that opportunity.

Beyond that, I might add that two weeks ago this job was offered to our candidate, Garrett Matthews of Crutchfield.com, who turned down the opportunity for a gig with another one of our clients in Atlanta, where Garrett had a deeply personal interest in living.  My team and I had submitted a dozen or so very talented customer acquisition candidates — and Camelot rightly offered the role to Garrett, who’s “an inch wide and a mile deep” in terms of his customer acquisition experience in the consumer electronics space.  The guy’s a total rock star, and Camelot could see that.

What we’re looking for here is Garrett Matthews 2.0.  We’re looking for someone who not only has a high degree of expertise with organic and paid search — but we need someone who’s hypothesis-driven in their approach to customer acquisition.

Meaning, we want someone who can analyze and understand how the customer thinks (and how the customer wants to relate to the brand) — and then reverse engineer a customer acquisition process that plays into their latent buying behaviors.  There’s nothing creepy about this.  This is what the world’s best marketers do.  They develop a deep affinity with their target market and sell to them the way they buy.  (Re-read that.)

Anyway, Garrett can do this — and Camelot recognized it.  Camelot’s only problem is that it’s based in Detroit (home of Hung).  DetroitWhere houses are selling two for the price of one, and your mortgage could be $250/month:  Detroit.  Home of the Tigers and the Red Wings.  Detroit: So cheap there’s hope!!  Detroit rocks, and would you believe it’s got a a killer start-up scene?  But Garrett, God bless him, couldn’t go there.

But you can.  And should!  You think Detroit’s toast? Think again …

Take a good, long look at Garrett’s bio.  Then ask your self: “Is my background similar to this guy’s?”  If it is, read on.  We’d like to hear from you.
