HARRY’S COMMENTS: We are working with Con-Air Industries in their search for a proven ecommerce-oriented Senior Director, Accounting and Finance. The job will be based in sunny Orlando, Florida.

About the Company

Con-Air Industries is a manufacturer and distributor of replacement air filtration products that are sold directly to the consumer. Since 1980, the firm has been focused on making the world safer, healthier, and more productive.

In 2009, Con-Air became a full-line manufacturer and launched its first ecom site in 2010 to sell its own line of standard and custom-sized HVAC filters. In 2014, Con-Air joined the Filtration Group family of businesses.

The company offers a wide range of air filtration products, including commercial and home air filters in various MERV ratings, sizes, and custom options. Its filters are manufactured in the USA by the Filtration Group.

Con-Air sells its products directly to consumers through its own ecom websites as well as popular marketplaces like Amazon, Walmart, and Target. The firm’s approach is to “make quality products at accessible prices,” and it believes that clean, healthy indoor air is a necessity for every home and business.

About the Role

Reporting to the firm’s President and supporting the business in all things accounting and finance, this is a top finance leadership role for the company.

We are looking for a proven, team-focused Accounting leader with a strong desire to develop individuals, manage accounting and financial controls, and lead process improvements that will take the firm’s ecommerce business to the next level.

What that means:

Simply put, you will be leveraging your deep knowledge of accounting to lead continuous improvement of accounting controls, adhering to Sarbanes-Oxley and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

This includes developing, implementing, and maintaining appropriate accounting policies, processes, systems, tools, and IT infrastructure to meet financial reporting requirements and to remain compliant.

We’ll want you to support the broader business by preparing accurate financial statements and by providing analysis and insight to help the firm’s leaders understand and improve results.

To win in this role, you MUST possess deep ERP experience and have the ability to understand and administer transactions in the system as well as understand the relevant proper accounting. Experience in a manufacturing environment is essential.

You’ve heard it all before. BUT …

You must also possess a complete understanding of ECOMMERCE, and in particular: AMAZON VENDOR CENTRAL. Roughly 90% of Con-Air’s Amazon business is 1P, and very few companies know more about financial management than Amazon.

Why does that matter?

Because while Amazon is a phenomenal channel for customer acquisition, it can be tough to maintain a high ROIC after all costs and flows are accounted for. Basically, selling at a profit on Amazon is a contest of ethical wills.

You don’t get what you deserve; You get what you 1/ inspect consistently, 2/ negotiate, and 3/ follow up on politely but persistently. Which is why in your previous roles, it is ESSENTIAL that you have recouped funds successfully from Amazon.

Beyond that, you MUST have led finance-related IT integrations. We’re looking for an A-player with a proven playbook for running a squeaky-clean Amazon 1P business, and a PROCESS for managing the ever-changing constellation of internal and external stakeholders as it orbits around the ecommerce channel.

Again: You must have a solid working knowledge of ecommerce expense categories, as well as a proven approach to lean inventory and financial management.

Ideally, you will have led the Finance function for a $5 million per year entity with an Amazon 1P relationship. You’ll have hands-on experience with ecommerce O&O and third party platforms, and have led an integration onto a major data platform, like Power BI, and know how to blend internal and external inputs.
