One of the coolest ecommerce jobs around!

ALLAN’S COMMENTS: We are working with a maker of science-based educational products in their search for a world-class Ecommerce Manager based in North Carolina.

NOTE: This is a REMOTE position, but this new hire will be expected to be onsite one week each-and-every quarter. Travel costs will be covered by the company.

Were a candidate to reside within driving distance and be willing to work onsite two days a week, then the hiring team would be very interested in that arrangement. This is not a hard-fast “MUST” — but this ability would a major differentiator in one’s candidacy.

About the Role

This is a hugely important role in our client’s growing ecom business. We are on the hunt for a proven Ecommerce Manager who can lead all CX initiatives on our client’s ecommerce websites. By leveraging internal KPIs, behavioral data, and customer insights, your job will be to outline and initiate projects that drive engagement and conversion.

On a daily basis, you’ll find yourself making changes to the firm’s web storefronts, which means you’ll be working closely with your peers in Marketing, Creative, IS and other departments. This is a unique, high visability opportunity at the intersection of education, science, and digital commerce.

Beyond CX, you’ll be managing the underlying ecom platform for this highly respected manufacturer and distributor of science-based educational products, serving educators, institutions, and government agencies with scientific supplies, specimens, and educational materials.

A lot of Moving Parts

Every year, EcommerceRecruiter manages dozens of super interesting ecom searches, and rarely do we encounter such an interesting business model. With 22,000-30,000 active SKUs, our client’s product catalog spans everything from basic lab equipment to living organisms and preserved specimens.

This role requires understanding various regulatory requirements, product-specific state restrictions, and educational standards for optimal management of a sophisticated B2B and DTC ecommerce operation generating 8-figures in revenue.

To win in this role, you’ll need to balance both strategic planning and hands-on execution. Key responsibilities include managing analytics, A/B testing, site search optimization, and working with the development team on technical requirements.

The client is currently transitioning to a headless commerce architecture, making this an exciting time for someone who enjoys leading digital transformation initiatives.

What sets this role apart is its technical depth.

While the position doesn’t require coding, you MUST be comfortable working with enterprise-level ecommerce platforms and tools like Sitespect for A/B testing and personalization. Experience with B2B platforms like Oracle Commerce, IBM WebSphere, or SAP Hybris would be valuable, though not required if you have worked with other complex ecommerce systems.

The company’s culture emphasizes autonomy and self-management.

There’s no micromanagement here: Team members are expected to manage their priorities and juggle multiple projects simultaneously. We’re looking for a proven A-player who can thrive in an environment where projects range from strategic initiatives to unexpected state adoption requirements that need immediate attention.

This fully remote position requires quarterly visits to the office, and the comp package includes a highly competitive base plus benefits including profit sharing and bonuses. The firm’s stability is noteworthy: These folks have consistently provided profit sharing for over a decade, even through economic downturns.

How many ecom firms can say that?

Still, this gig isn’t for everyone. Beyond the technical business requirements, candidates need to be comfortable working with an organization that deals in scientific educational materials, including preserved specimens. The company ethically sources specimens while ensuring the collection of specimens does not negatively impact the ecosystem balance.

The ideal candidate will have 4-6 years of experience in ecommerce, with a background that demonstrates both B2B and B2C expertise. They should be analytically minded, self-directed, and able to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, from IT teams to business unit leaders.

Most importantly, they need to be aligned with the company’s mission of supporting science education for future generations.

This role offers a unique opportunity to apply ecommerce expertise in support of science education while working with a stable, mission-driven organization that has been a leader in their field for generations.
