HARRY’S COMMENTS: We are working with Masterbuilt Manufacturing in its search for a Director of Digital Sales based in Duluth, GA, roughly 30 miles north of Atlanta.

Now then: Sometimes I market my searches confidentially. Sometimes I don’t. Today I’m not gonna because, frankly, I think searches like this look amazing on my site. I’m not kidding.

I say that as a card-carrying carnivore.

About the Market

With over 70 years of backyard cooking experience, Masterbuilt is completely committed to designing and building tools (such as the truly badass Kamado Joe Big Joe III) that make cooking fun.

Which is a good thing, given that outdoor cooking is an American pastime.

According to the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association (HPBA), nearly 75 percent of US households own a barbecue or smoker. In 2018, nearly 30 percent of those sales were first-time purchases. This makes sense, given that historically grill production has tracked with the sale of single-family homes, since BBQ grills and smokers are often acquired after the purchase of a home.

In 2018, the industry has reached $930 million in annual sales as consumer spending and low unemployment gave support to the low end of the market.

But there’s more good news:

Over the past five years, the number of U.S. households earning more than $100,000 has risen sharply, and outdoor kitchens are among the fastest-growing residential amenities for upscale homeowners (according to a recent study by Coldwell Banker). With a higher number of luxury-driven consumers, outdoor cooking manufactures have enjoyed stronger demand for high-end merchandise.

Any way you slice it, the market for grills and smokers is heating up.

As Masterbuilt’s new Director of Digital Sales, it’ll fall to you to grow the company’s etail business in a resource-friendly, brand accretive way. You’ll develop the strategy. You’ll earn the buy-in from the CSO and Senior Management. And you’ll drive the revenue.

This is your baby.

You’ll be expected to bring a “sales first” approach to Masterbuilt’s etail channel (including Amazon), combining in-person account visits with a partnership with the National Accounts team at the line reviews and sales calls it pertains to the etail portion of the company’s brick and mortar business.

You’ll have responsibility for a monthly, quarterly and annual etail sales budget, including forecasting, budgeting, analyzing profitability and managing churn. So for example, if Kamado Joe suddenly loses the Buy Box on Amazon, you can expect your hair to catch fire.

Hey, I’m just being honest!

Additionally, you’ll coach third-party reps and agencies to grow revenues, sell across Masterbuilt’s entire product line, and reduce customer churn while you work with the firm’s Ops team to sell-off unsold inventory. Beyond that, you’ll play a key role in launching new products on Amazon and elsewhere.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly manage on-call on Etail specific accounts ie Amazon, VMI, ShoppersChoice.com
  • Effectively communicate sales strategies including
  • Control the product line review process for Etail accounts including coordinating with Marketing for presentations, ordering samples, and holding regular meetings to ensure success
  • Development of promotional opportunities and events
  • Managing inline product buys and maximizing revenue
  • Work in conjunction with the National Accounts team at traditional retail with an etail division
  • Effectively communicate sales strategies including for the brick and mortar etail
  • Control the product line review process for National accounts including coordinating with Marketing for presentations, ordering samples, and holding regular meetings to ensure success
  • Promotional opportunities and events
  • Managing inline product buys and maximizing revenue
  • Manage 3rd party sales agencies and teams to drive and maximize all sales opportunities
  • Coordinate efforts of marketing, operations, and finance to drive profitability planning based on sales execution.
  • Travel to accounts regularly for line reviews, quarterly account reviews, and lead generation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Has experience working in digital sales across multiple platforms
  • Suggest and implement improvements in the sales administration process
  • Use customer feedback to generate ideas about new features or products
  • Research and discover methods to increase customer engagement
  • Ensure sales, finance, and legal policies and procedures are met
  • Control the product line review process for National accounts including coordinating with Marketing for presentations, ordering samples, and holding regular meetings to ensure success

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or marketing field preferred
  • Global Digital Sales experience a must
  • Must have experience with CRM software and MS Excel
  • Must have retail sales management experience
  • In-depth understanding of the sales administration process
