HARRY’S COMMENTS: We are working with Stop Aging Now in its search for a world-class Performance Marketing Manager based in Bethesda, MD.

As most of my regular readers know, this year we will be contacted by 350 companies seeking assistance with their ecommerce recruiting needs, and we’ll take ~200 of those searches. We have specific criteria each potential search must satisfy, but the gist of our inquiry is this:

Does this new client’s business pass our own “Shark Tank” test?

We methodically (yes, we have a method) consider each client’s CLARITY, ABILITY, and RESOLVE to “win” in ecommerce, and we take searches only from companies we’d be happy to invest in — or see our own children work for.

Stop Aging Now is a great business.

The Stop Aging Now brand was created by Jean Carper, a best-selling author, columnist, radio talk show host and leading authority on health and nutrition. Ms. Carper is the author of 24 books, including 100 Simple Things You Can Do to Prevent Alzheimer’s and Age-Related Memory Loss.

First published in 1995, Stop Aging Now details cutting-edge research showing that specific vitamins, minerals, herbs and foods have astonishing anti-aging powers. By popular demand, Ms. Carper produced the first Stop Aging Now supplements in 1996, based on information contained in that book. Since then, the supplements have been regularly upgraded to reflect the latest research.

Stop Aging Now leverages a killer “product / content” business model.

As a recognized expert in anti-aging, the firm is not only a leading provider of anti-aging supplements and anti-aging products of the highest quality, but also a trusted resource for unbiased, cutting-edge health, nutrition and anti-aging news.

SAN formulates its own brand of natural health products. It has one brand for dietary supplements; one brand for pet supplements; one brand for skincare; and a final brand that concentrates on community, social and content. With nearly $30 million in sales, SAN hired conservatively in 2015. The company now has 40 employees and intends to add substantially to its digital marketing headcount this year.

The company’s marketing team is divided into two areas: Acquisition and Loyalty. This role will be part of the Acquisition team, and we are happy to share with you some of the company’s successes in the Facebook channel. Since 2014, new to file growth has been spectacular.

Currently, FB is being co-managed by a number of members of the acquisition team – but management would like one, extremely competent A-player to be dedicated to this channel. To be clear: This is not a social marketing role.

This role involves paid advertising on Facebook.

In fact, if you have never done paid advertising on Facebook, we will not consider you for this role. We are not looking for fluffy Facebook posts. This is not about managing a Facebook page. This is about running Facebook ads against definable metrics.

Cost per lead. Cost per sale. That’s what matters here.

Due to internal capacity constraints, SAN sees Facebook as a relatively mature channel, and this role involves quickly grasping the methodology and strategy that has worked so well for the company – then taking it to the next level.

You are not inheriting a mess.

Those who seek a growth opportunity will thrive in this environment. Overlaid with SAN’s target demographic, Facebook (as a platform) is ideally suited for additional marketing investment. However, you will need to be extremely hypothesis driven in order to realize this growth. Some of SAN’s products sell better through paid search than social. WHY?? It’ll be your job to figure that out.

There was a great article in last month’s Internet Retailer magazine about how social networks drive only a small fraction of online retail sales – yet provide astute retailers unique ways to reach and influence certain shoppers. Again: Why is that? And what can you do to improve SAN’s fortunes on FB’s platform?

This is not a six-figure job.

You can expect this role to pay $60,000 – $70,000/base and pay increases can be awarded each year assuming you hit your numbers. Having said that, the company culture at Stop Aging Now is amazing. SAN has a very long track record of success in hiring, with only four employees leaving the firm in the last 10 years. The firm has found valuable employees by being open-minded, and it looks for resourceful, hard-working, honest, ethical, analytically biased, business oriented people who are long on street smarts.

Requirements:

  • Develop and execute the strategy for paid social media placements and manage existing and new advertising campaigns
  • Conduct competitive research, audience/segmentation research, etc. to inform strategy development
  • Utilize social media advertising tools such as look-a-like list marketing, remarketing, profiling and Facebook Insights Analytics
  • Maintain creative assets and tracking codes for all campaigns; manage and maintain all A/B tests
  • Manage advertising bid process
  • Responsible for all reporting, analysis and troubleshooting

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of digital marketing experience; at least one year of Facebook advertising experience
  • Experience marketing/advertising on other digital/social platforms including PPC, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Pinterest desirable
  • Working knowledge of HTML
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office, specifically Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communications and project management skills
  • Bachelors degree or higher
